Why Use Firefox?

  1. Security - Firefox is a much more secure browser. Internet Explorer 7 has over 12 times more vulnerabilities when tested against Firefox.
  2. Web Standards Support - When web designers create a website, they are strongly advised to adhere to certain coding and styling recommendations - this is called "responsible web design". This was put in place by the W3C in order to standardise the way that browsers display web pages. In other words, this means that it shouldn't matter whether you're using Explorer, Firefox, Google Chrome, Oper or any other browser - websites will look the same. This was done for the benefit of users and most good web designers spend a lot of time ensuring their sites meet these strict criteria.  Unfortunately, Microsoft's support for these recommendations is shockingly bad and, as a result, Explorer has actually become the worst browser in which to view websites. If you want to see what a website is actually supposed to look like, then use Firefox.
  3. Open Source - Firefox is completely free, open source software. What this means is that anyone can download it, change the code, fiddle with it and generally make it better. That means that every time a new version of Firefox is released, it probably has tens of thousands of hours worth of development work put into it by people all over the world. It means that every release is absolutely cutting edge software and completely free.
  4. Ease of Use -The Firefox browser is incredibly simple and effective. It will import any bookmarks (or favourites) from your Explorer settings if you want it to.
  5. More Page Space - Firefox does not have a load of toolbars cluttering up the top and bottom of your screen, meaning the browser can do exactly what it is supposed to do - display as much of each webpage as possible.
  6. MUCH fewer crashes - because of its simplicity, Firefox crashes a lot less that Internet Explorer. It also displays web pages more quickly, since there is significantly less surplus code involved in its operation.
  7. Will not run mailicious scripts - Firefox blocks scripts that can cause damage to your computer and operating system, making your internet sessions much safer.
  8. Fully customisable - although simple, Firefox is incredibly powerful. There is excellent support on their website and countless add-ons and plugins that you can install should you find you need them.
  9. In-built search function - instead of going back to Google, type your search directly into the address bar and it will access Google and give you a list of appropriate links.
  10. Excellent tabbed browsing - Firefox were the first browsed to really take the tabbed browsing configuration and make it popular. Microsoft caught up years later, with the release of Explorer 7 but the Firefox tab system is much more stable and quicker to switch between pages.
  11. It's won a load of awards - Firefox has been named PC World's Product of the Year, Softpedia's User's Choice, Forbes' Best of the Web, SC Magazine's "Editor in Chief" award, CNET Editor's Choice, Laptop Magazine Editor's Choice, PC-Welt's Readers Choice Best Internet Tool, and more. If it was in any way possible to get excited about a web browser, this would be the one.
